University Health Practice is located at Ground Floor of the Horace Lamb Building, at the North Terrace Campus of The University of Adelaide in Adelaide, SA. There is street parking available nearby, as well as public transport via trams, trains, and busses.

To access the clinic on Frome Road travelling from North Terrace, enter through gate 5 on the left, continue under the engineering bridge. We are located in the Horace Lamb Building on the ground floor through the sliding doors.

University Health Practice is a private billing practice. Our practice bulk-bills all Australian students, children under 16 years of age and all government concession card holders. All other patients who are not bulk-billed, may incur an out of pocket expense for their consultation fees, which are payable in full at the time of consultation. We offer a reduced gap payment for all Adelaide University Staff. Facilities are available to process Medicare rebates back into your Cheque or Savings account on the spot.

Please note that fees for students with BUPA Health Insurance are required to be paid in full at the time of consultation.

International students will generally be bulk billed in accordance with the agreed arrangement between the practice and the student’s health insurance company. However, there is still a small booking fee to be paid at the time of consultation.

The cost of a standard consultation at University Health Practice is $86.10 and is exclusive of any materials fee charged for dressings, materials used in procedures, contraceptives, and certain vaccines. However, the doctor will charge according to the consult provided. A list of consultation fees is displayed in the reception and waiting areas.

A standard consultation time is 10-15 minutes.

A longer consultation time is 20-30 minutes. If you have numerous or complex medical issues or require a procedure, a longer consultation may be required.

It depends on your level of cover and which health fund provides your insurance. University Health Practice has agreements with NIB, AHM, Allianz and Medibank. We can send these health funds a bill directly, so you pay no out of pocket expenses for your consultation, however a small booking fee applies on arrival at your appointment. Bupa students are required to pay in full on the day.

At University Health Practice, we use a secure automated SMS system to communicate with patients about results. Depending on the test that has been undertaken, a consultation may be required to receive results. It is the patient’s responsibility to follow up on their test results, and we actively encourage our patients to be proactive in their healthcare and book an appointment for results before leaving the clinic.

Unless encryption is used, email is not a secure platform for communicating sensitive information such as test results. Also, to protect your privacy, you should never email personal information such as your birth date, address, Medicare card number, etc. to our clinic.

Yes, in most circumstances you will need to see a doctor to have a script written. Doctors have a duty of care and need to determine if you should be prescribed a medication based on various factors, or if you should continue or cease taking medication, they may have prescribed for you previously.

Regardless of the nature of your visit, you need to book an appointment with a doctor to ensure that you receive the correct level of care. Depending on your individual circumstance, you may also need to see a nurse either before or after your appointment with a doctor. Our reception staff can answer any particular questions you may have about your appointment.

If your usual doctor is fully booked and you need to see a doctor today, please call us on 08 7095 0273, and we will, depending on the circumstances, try to book you in with your usual doctor, or if this is not possible, another doctor who has an appointment available.

University Health Practice is open between 8:30am am and 5:30pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The clinic is open slightly later Tuesdays, from 8:30am to 7:00pm. The earliest appointment time is 8:30am, and the last appointment for the day is 15 minutes prior to the closing time.

Yes, we have an adequate waiting room area where you can sit away from other people. Alternatively, please speak with our reception staff when you arrive, and they will arrange an area for you.
